Yes, I admit it...

I am a chicken when it comes to certain things.

I may have mentioned in another post of things I hate, that I hate thunderstorms.

I know that most people languish in the beauty of lightning and the power of thunder, but for me... they just scare the bejeezus out of me. Even my kids enjoy sitting out on the porch watching the storm roll in while I try to find a way to distract myself from the flashes of light and the loud jolts of noise.

Last night I had one of those wake me from my sleep. As I lay there in bed, seeing the tiny sparks of light under my shade, anticipating the next crack of thunder.. I thought about how times like these.. it would be nice to have Mark near me, holding me, making love to me, comforting and protecting me from this crazy childish fear. I instead, turned on the television and watched homeowners looking to purchase their first home to keep my mind off the turmoil outside my walls.

How I wish I could enjoy storms like others do instead of dreading them. I wonder why people find them so fun when I just crumble at the first flash of lightning.

Looking at our weather report... could be a LONGGGG weekend for this gal!

  1. Poor Jen! I really wish Mark could be there for you too. How comforting that would be. Thinking of you, during this rainy season.

  4. As a man, I think some of the best moments are when you have your arms around the woman you love, comforting her when she is distressed or afraid. It's a kind of cave-man, elemental thing. And I love watching lightning (at a distance). The last time I was worried by a storm was when I thought the tree I was standing under was about to be ripped up by the stomr force winds, and I had to calculate which way to run - very fast.

  5. I'm fascinated and afraid at the same time. I'd love to have loving arms around me at that time!!

  6. I've never really thought about them, they are a part of life here. I do appreciate the beauty but don't appreciate the lightening knocking out the power.

Just know that storms are natural and unless you're outside playing golf, you'll be fine - they will end and the rain will bring beautiful flowers!

  7. Sage: You were right, besides some incredible rain.. the thunder was pretty much nil.. very happy for that!

Kevin: It sure is nice from a womans perspective too having a man to wrap you in his arms and make the world go away. Sounds like you ran the right way to avoid that falling tree... good choice ! ;)

Spring Flower: I agree.. love that feeling!

nitebyrd: No one knows more than I how silly it is to be so afraid.. but, I just can't get past it. Fortunately.. all I have ever lost is some power and a few hours sleep, so.. I guess its not so bad.

  8. Honestly, lightning scares me to death when I'm camping (long story about my tent nearly getting struck when camping on a road trip). I actually dig a good t-storm...the lightning is beautiful...spending the storm with Chloe wrapped around me...MMMMM!!! Nothing like being with the person you love and adore ;-)
